The village of Grignan nestles at the foot of its spectacular château, which belonged to François de Castellane Adhémar, Count of Grignan, husband of Françoise Marguerite de Sévigné, daughter of the Marquise de Sévigné. The famous correspondence between mother and daughter and Madame de Sévigné’s visits to Grignan later saved the château from ruin.
